Steven Gerrard is emphatic about joining LA Galaxy and accomplishing what Donovan did

Landon Donovan has a playing career which stretched for over 11 years and during this period of time, the retired footballer performed with a number of different clubs including: Bayern Munich, Everton and Bayer Leverkusen just to name a few of them but it was when he played for Los Angeles Galaxy where he truly managed to stand out and make a name for himself after scoring over 100 goals and making around 247 appearances for the MLS club.

Steven Gerrard is the latest high profile player that LA Galaxy has signed as the former star of Liverpool penned an 18 month long contract which is worth $9 million and Gerrard has revealed his excitement in joining the MLS club and following in the footsteps that were left behind by the retired Landon Donovan who announced his intention to hang up his boots on August of 2014.

LA Galaxy’s summer signing Steven Gerrard said: “First and foremost I’d like to thank the club for getting me here. The club and head coach Bruce Arena were very aggressive in making me come here and I’m very excited to be here.I’m really excited to be with the LA Galaxy and you mentioned two names there, David Beckham and Landon Donovan, who’ve contributed terrifically well for this football club and if I can follow in their footsteps I’ll be very, very happy.’’

Gerrard continued on saying that both Donovan and Beckham are 2 of his heroes as some of the players which he tried to emulate as a way to improve his own playing career. The former captain of Liverpool, Gerrard is now aiming to add more silverware to his collection and lift a few more titles before eventually deciding to hang up his boots and retire.
